Company Name Reservation in Mozambique

Name reservation is the first formal step of any company incorporation in Mozambique. Only after the certificate is issued can you move on to the deed and commercial registration.

Company Name Reservation in Mozambique

The application is filed with the Legal Entities Registry, listing up to three name options in order of preference, the intended legal form (sole trader, single-shareholder company, Lda. or S.A.) and the business purpose.

Names identical or confusingly similar to existing firms, names implying regulated activities without authorisation and expressions reserved to the State are rejected. A prior search avoids losing days to refusals.

Once issued, the reservation certificate protects the name for a limited period, within which incorporation must be completed. We handle the search, the filing and collection of the certificate within that window.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does name reservation take?

Usually between 1 and 3 working days, depending on the registry and the availability of the chosen name.

Can I change the name after registration?

Yes, through a corporate amendment with a new reservation, shareholder resolution and publication — slower than choosing well from the start.

Does reservation protect my brand?

No. The firm name protects the corporate name; a trademark requires separate registration with IPI.
